Praying for Walls to Come Down

In my last post, I wrote about the biggest evangelistic outreach about to take place in the history of Slovenia. Nick Vujicic, a young man who was born without arms or legs, was the main speaker, and the event took place over five nights in five cities throughout Slovenia. 18,000 people were exposed to the Gospel. This is in a country with 2 million people and only 1,500 evangelical believers. Never in the history of Slovenia has the Gospel been proclaimed in such a public fashion. Terry and Lori Jackson have been serving with Josiah Venture in Slovenia for ten years. Lori wrote about the outreach that took place in the capital city of Ljubljana before and after the event:
↵↵Before the event:
↵↵“There is a path that completely surrounds Ljubljana. Today, I ran a few miles on this path and prayed. This path is now a sign of freedom to the Slovenes, but it has not always been so. During the war, a barbed wire fence was placed around the city of Ljubljana by the Germans to keep out supplies.
When I returned home from running and praying, I asked my neighbor about this path. She told me there is a lot of pain associated with it. Many people died as a result. As she told me of the difficulties during this time, she said, ‘This is one reason why your job is so hard. During this time priests turned the people in to be killed, and, as a result, they lost trust in the church.’ Wow, that is one sure way to lose trust.
↵↵Part of the battle we fight here, is a historical one. But that does not make it any less spiritual – there are just stronger roots!
↵↵As I ran, I prayed that God would tear down the spiritual walls in this this city. What we are experiencing this week is definitely the beginning of something new. I prayed that just as that physical wall has been torn down God would tear down the barriers that have kept out the “spiritual supplies” these people need.”
↵↵After the event:
↵↵“The stadium was almost completely full (the night of the event in Ljubljana). As of Saturday morning, there were around 5,500 tickets sold. Over 7,000 people filled the arena. Our God is amazing!
Nick’s message was very clear! He has hope and courage to face each day because God has healed his heart through a personal relationship with Jesus Christ!
↵↵We believe that what we witnessed will have lasting effect in the spiritual realm. The name of Christ was proclaimed, and we believe a spiritual wall of darkness has literally come down. We are seeing prophecies fulfilled, dreams (spiritual) fulfilled and unity in the church, never before experienced to this degree.
↵↵After returning from my walk on the path yesterday, our team leader sent us a verse about walls coming down. Nick encouraged the choir before our performance with the fact that he had been praying for God to take the wall down around this city. We firmly believe this has happened. We cannot express to you the significance of this event – of these events. This is truly uncharted territory.”
↵↵Josiah Venture Slovenia has only just begun the process of tearing down the walls. I can only imagine the battle that is occurring at this very moment. They have been preparing for follow-up for several weeks. Pray for this nation and for the believers as they fight to bring God’s Kingdom to Slovenia.
